martial arts and meditation are very different things. It's one thing to sit before a class and clear your mind. The true meditation is a whole new level and involves much more than breathing and relaxation. There are internal martial arts that incorporate certain principles such as relaxation and meditation in breathing as Tai Chi and Aikido. Internal martial arts are complex and require much more time to learn. Unfortunately, if you are U.S., sometimes is difficult to find a school that teaches an internal martial art that is truly effective in self defense. I'll probably take two distinct categories. One for self defense and others for meditation to make sure they learn from both successful and not just some confused who really benefits either. Not many of these schools around and is hard to tell who is who, if you are new to meditation and martial arts. It's easy to make the wrong decision and end up losing time in some arts Martial religious mix. Before choosing a martial arts school visit several schools and observe a class. Talk to teachers and ask many questions. Look at the students. Is it they seem to know what they do, because that is what it seems. Will you focus on self-defense or sport? There is a big difference. If you have problems with anger that you want a teacher who hoped that the discipline is fair to all students and is in some way. Doing research in various martial arts to know the teacher really teaches this martial art or if you do something and give it a name.
